This month we announced the newest member to our Board of Directors, Marko Dimitrijevic. Dimitrijevic’s impressive career as a successful entrepreneur, investor, and award-winning photographer will add immediate synergistic value and perspectives to scale growth for our ‘next-gen’ NGO—combining authentic impact-driven results with business-minded principles and marketing initiatives.
“Marko is globally recognized as a leader in emerging markets, and today we are realizing now, more than ever, that ocean health can be good for business – and vice versa,” shares Dr. Austin Gallagher, Chief Scientist of BTW. “His experience will be critical as we evolve, innovate, and collaborate across industries to bring new players and new mindsets into the ocean conservation space.”
Dimitrijevic is the founder and chairman of Volta Global, a Miami-based private investment group with investment activities in venture capital, private equity, real estate, and public markets. The transformational investment group is guided by its permanent capital base and remains open-minded, future-focused, and flexible. In addition to investing, Marko is an entrepreneur, award-winning photographer, and public speaker.
An active philanthropist, Dimitrijevic established the Stanford Graduate School of Business Emerging Markets Innovation Fund, founded the Miami Science Museum Underwater Festival, and has endowed numerous scholarships. He served on the Stanford Business School Advisory Board, the Stanford Business School Trust, the Executive Committee of the Frost Science Museum, the Pasteur Foundation, the Investment Committee of the Adrian Arsht Center for the Performing Arts. He currently serves on the board of Make-A-Wish Southern Florida and The Buoniconti Fund to Cure Paralysis.
In his creative time, Dimitrijevic seeks to capture the vibrant wonders of the world as an award-winning photographer. Armed with a camera since his teenage years, Dimitrijevic honed his photography skills in the field during his extensive travels to over 100 countries. Dimitrijevic’s photography has been published in numerous magazines including Alert Diver, American Photo, Digital Foto, Islands, Nature’s Best Photography, Seacam, and Showboats International.
Dimitrijevic joins a prestigious group of entrepreneurs, philanthropists, engineers, activists, strategists, and global connectors on the greater network of supporters and Directors at the organization.
Of his new Board position with Beneath the Waves, Dimitrijevic says, “as an entrepreneur, I am very excited about the opportunity to join the Beneath the Waves Board. This NGO is recognized for its ability to take innovation to scale in the nonprofit sector, utilizing cutting-edge technology and about their brand and business development. As a lifelong ocean-lover and environmentalist, I am proud to bring my knowledge and skills to this impact-driven organization, creating real positive change in the ocean space.”
