AMBASSADORS

Beneath the Waves’ Ambassadors are innovators and game-changers in their respective fields. They embody the goals and ideals of the organization through the creation of immersive art or media, or by leading innovative brands, ventures, and socially-responsible businesses. The Ambassadors are challenged to create a unique product (music, media, apparel), event (concert, performance, etc.), or service that promotes the overall mission of Beneath the Waves and pushes each Ambassador to new spaces.

Global sailors with a thirst for all things salt water – kiting above, diving below, and cleaning up everything in between, Conrad and Meagan Jones recently launched VANDAL, a world cruising catamaran and adventure platform. Beyond scouring the globe for forbidden seas and barbarous coasts, Conrad and Meagan are excited to partner with Beneath the Waves to facilitate scientific research missions and expeditions through VANDAL and advocate for ocean health and responsible tourism.

Nolan
Hunter Nolan was born and raised in Falmouth, Maine. Instilled with a deep appreciation of the outdoors, oceans, and all of the critters that inhabit them from a very young age, he has pursued his passion and career in film production with a focus on the ocean and environment since graduating from Middlebury College in 2013. He currently resides in Brooklyn, New York where he runs a production company that specializes in adventure cinematography and filmmaking in any and all environments of the world. His recent work has been featured in award winning documentaries that have focused on using film as a “tool of mass construction” in the mission to bring current environmental challenges to the attention and care of our world’s citizens. His recent film work can be seen in the films Racing Extinction (Dir. Louie Psihoyos), AWF (Dir. Fisher Stevens), and Game Changers (Dir. Louie Psihoyos) His favorite critters are the green turtle and the arctic wolf.
James Sternlicht

Since a young age, James Sternlicht has displayed a profound interest in the ocean and the life aquatic. From his first phrase being “cute newt” to beginning to work on fishing boats in Nantucket at 11 years old, he began to develop a body of interest, experience, and knowledge around all things maritime which lead him to spend years volunteering with the Maria Mitchell Association aiding in conservation and education efforts around the coastal waters of Cape Cod. After graduating from Dartmouth College with a degree in Geography and Environmental Sciences, James has been working in the space between real estate, hospitality, entertainment, and marketing, working on development initiatives and strategic activations for brands spanning the hospitality, entertainment, and green spaces.

Leila Janah is the Founder and CEO of Sama and Laxmi; two companies that share a common social mission to end global poverty by giving work to people in need. She is also the co-author of America’s Moment: Creating Opportunity in the Connected Age, a book by Rework America: A Markle Initiative. Prior, Leila was a Visiting Scholar with the Stanford Program on Global Justice and Australian National University’s Center for Applied Philosophy and Public Ethics. She was a founding Director of Incentives for Global Health, and a management consultant at Katzenbach Partners (now Booz & Co.). Leila is a Young Global Leader of the World Economic Forum, a Director of CARE USA, a 2012 TechFellow, recipient of the inaugural Club de Madrid Young Leadership Award, and the youngest person to win a Heinz Award in 2014.

Nicole Davis is a writer, documentary filmmaker, and the founder and editor of Red Flag Magazine. She has a Master’s in Art History from New York University. Nicole has produced and co-produced over 25 investigative short documentaries in 14 countries, mainly for Current TV. In tandem with her journalistic documentary work, Davis launched a web-based documentary series in 2007 called Artnet TV, to serve as a medium for the continuation of her work with contemporary artists. She currently cannot call one given spot her home, and as her homestead borders get wider and wider her love and accountability to the planet at large grows stronger.
Josh Legg

Songwriter, performer, and producer Josh Legg has connected millions to the sounds of summer. Under the moniker and production alias “Goldroom,” Josh produces music defined by dreamy synths, emotive vocals, and tropical disco textures. Legg has toured Goldroom throughout Asia, Europe, Australia, and North and South America – both as a live band and as a DJ – playing a range of venues from intimate club settings to the world’s most popular music festivals such as Ultra Music Festival, HARD Summer, FYF, Osheaga, and Firefly Music Festival. Josh grew up on the water, and has been the director of two different sailing schools for adolescents in his childhood home of Cape Cod, MA. He sailed competitively for the University Of Southern California collegiate team, and continues to follow his passion for the sea in Southern California where he resides. His love for the ocean not only influences his music but has inspired him to endorse Beneath The Waves, where he will continue to be an advocate and supporter.
Alex Butler

Alex is a Miami-based musician, producing under the alias of Alyx Ander. As a classically-trained pianist, Alex began his musical career early, leading theatrical productions at Manhattan’s prestigious LaGuardia High School for the Performing Arts in New York City, otherwise known as the school that inspired multiple Fame films and television series, and later moving to Florida to attend the University of Miami’s Frost music business program. As the Director Of Special Operations and Programming at 1 Hotel in Miami’s South Beach, Alex has great influence on the sonic culture of his city, curating special lineups for the hotel’s associated events such as Art Basel, WMC and Ultra as well as ocean-inspired events at the 1 Hotel’s Rooftop.

Dylan Roukous & Sean Holmes
Embracing a life filled with epic moments and adventures, Dylan Roukous and Sean Holmes co-founded Nectar, a sunglasses and apparel company tailored to those wanting to live the “sweet life.” Activated globally, Nectar offers over 30 styles of polarized and fashionable styles of sunglasses that fit perfectly the ocean lifestyle. Dylan and Sean will create “Atlantic,” a custom pair of shades for Beneath the Waves in 2015, whereby a portion of the proceeds from each online sale will go towards furthering our research efforts in the Atlantic Ocean.
